This brother & sister duo started performing at Grimsby folk club when they were teenagers. They were both
members of The Galley and Force Four, groups sadly no longer performing together. They stopped singing
together for a time while Lynn branched out into other areas of music and Paul joined with local musician
Mark Campbell and together performed at various folk clubs and Cleethorpes Folk Festival. Paul also spent
many years playing fiddle with the Broadside Ceilidh Band and now plays regularly with The Little Band.
Lynn and Paul have both appeared in many musicals at the Grimsby Auditorium with Silhouettes Operatic
Society, often playing major roles. Lynn is also a member of the Grimsby Philharmonic choir.
Now they are singing together again at the folk club with a repertoire of contemporary & traditional
material accompanied by Paul on guitar.
My interest in singing began at a young age. It is something I have always enjoyed but only recently pursued. In 2012 I went to my first sing-a-round at Grimsby Folk Club and after this I soon realised how much I enjoyed performing. I have since performed at several local festivals, including Hull Folk Festival, and in 2012 reached the finals of the 'Write a song for Lincolnshire' competition. As well as singing unaccompanied I often perform as part of a Duo known as Brodgar. My main passion lies in the Traditional songs of England, Scotland and Ireland and I feel it is very important to keep these beautiful old songs alive.
Mark Campbell has been a major contributor to the busy folk and acoustic scene in Grimsby for many years.
Grimsby Folk Club, The Royal Oak Folk Club, Cleethorpes Folk Festival, Open mic and acoustic sessions have
all been home to Mark’s music, and he is now also busy as a sound man at many events.
Mark is a hugely competent and inventive guitarist, using standard and alternative tunings to produce a big
sound for a solo performer. He has a strong and expressive voice with a distinctive style which he adapts
well to a wide range of musical genres.
Inevitably, a musician of Mark’s quality has attracted the attention of other musicians who wish to
collaborate with him. A duo with brother Tony, and a four piece line up called ” The HatBand” are his
current projects.
Whether solo, duo or in a band, audiences can expect a quality performance and an attention to detail in
arrangements which will ensure a meaningful musical experience and a thoroughly entertaining set from
Mr. Campbell.

Mark & Linda are a Lincolnshire based folk duo. They sing a mix of traditional and contemporary folk songs, with an occasional dash of Americana.
Mark Campbell, an accomplished guitar player and singer, has been a stalwart of the folk and acoustic music scene in the Grimsby and surrounding areas for almost 30 years.
In the middle of 2015 he was joined by Linda, and they have developed a distinct sound of twin line harmony singing.
They perform at various folk clubs, festivals and charity events, and are active members of Grimsby and Louth folk clubs.

My first instrument was a classical guitar which I studied at college with John Gladwin from the Amazing Blondel. This gave me the foundation of my playing today. As a song writer I'm influenced a lot by acoustic music especially Folk and Americana and tend to write songs within those genres. Since starting to play the guitar 30 years ago I've also learnt to play the harmonica and banjo, bass guitar as well as sing the odd tune. I first started performing at Grimsby folk club about four years ago having played at Epworth folk club for many years. I started song writing about tens years ago and found success by winning the best song at the Saltburn Folk festival in 2010 with a song I wrote called the Dying Soldier.

Jan and Paul have been performing as a duo for some years. They have a wide repertoire with an emphasis on traditional and more contemporary folk music, together with a selection of self-penned songs, and a small amount of Americana. Jan sings lead with guitar whilst Paul plays harmonica in a distinctive single reed manner, and provides vocal harmonies. Over the years the duo have played at a wide range of events, including various folk clubs around the UK. They have been Residents of three other clubs since the 1980s (whilst living in each of Nottingham, Aberdeen and Lancaster). During the pandemic they were offered various guest spots at a number of previously unvisited folk clubs in the UK.
Ian & Michelle Wright
We are Ian and Michelle Wright, originally from East Anglia, where we performed in two Suffolk-based folk bands – ‘Mardi Pas’ and ‘The Homity Band’ - until about 12 years ago. We then lived abroad for a while before ‘landing’ in Lincolnshire in 2012, when we began playing and singing as a duo at local sessions, sing-arounds and folk clubs.
Ian sings lead vocals and plays acoustic guitar; Michelle sings harmony vocals and plays a range of whistles and occasional concertina. We perform a mix of traditional and contemporary folk songs and tunes, and we’re gradually adding more self-penned songs to our repertoire. We won the BBC Song for Lincolnshire Competition in 2015 and were runners-up in 2016.
We really love being ‘out and about’, meeting other musicians who enjoy sharing music and keeping music live at clubs, sessions and sing-arounds, so we’re very happy to be playing a more active role at the Grimsby Folk Club.
Ruairidh grew up in Grimsby and first sang at the Club in 1964 when it was at The Queen’s, Seaview Street. He features many local songs in his repertoire; some from Percy Grainger’s collecting in the 1900s and others from his own collecting in the 1960s. He also has songs from his own family tradition, including everything from Scottish ballads to Music Hall “gems”. A retired Primary School Headteacher, he was a researcher with Sheffield University’s National Centre for English Cultural Tradition (NATCECT) and has published a number of articles on folk song and folklore.
